Free coffee for cops?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

We`ve heard that no more coffee cup holders in police`s car. Now let`s head to Fort Worth City, US. Police in this city might receive free coffee gift. It`s reported that police now get free coffee at some Starbucks. Off course it’s not only police and firefighters but also even-lower-paid schoolteachers.

Now it`s remaining debate wether they deserve or not to received free coffee from Starbucks. The city policy told that no police employee can “solicit, seek or accept” gifts. But it should be OK for Fort Worth’s officers to accept free coffee on duty as a community relations gesture.

The authority of police and ethics scholars take gift coffee very serious. The suggested ethics code of the Virginia-based International Association of Police Chiefs says that officers should refuse anything that isn’t given to private citizens, and also report any gifts or “items of value.”

Introduction: Three shot espresso over ice

Soon, this type of coffee (if any) will be famous: Three shot espresso over ice. It`s Jeff Simmermon who makes this idea. The big story behind it could make it famous.  “my usual summertime pick-me-up”, he said about his coffee. That`s why he ordered Three shot espresso dumped over ice. But barista said that was against company`s policy. So, Jeff`s order was denied. Then he wants a triple espresso and a cup of ice. He got his coffee, but barista told Jeff that what he was about to do … “that’s really, really Not Okay.” In next day they battled using blog. Jeff post on his blog, andiamnotlying.com. His post appeared in BoingBoing and Metafilter. Comments are so crowded. The owner of murkycoffee responded by posting open letter to Jeff simmermon. The battle of blogs just escalated.

There are pros and contras regarding this issue. buyer argued that he has “a personal policy that prohibits me from indulging stupid bullshit like this”. he also said that he has “another personal policy of doing what I want with the products I pay for”.

However, the coffee shop have their own reason regarding their policy. “This is our store policy, to preserve the integrity of the coffee. It’s about the quality of the drink, and diluting the espresso is really not cool with us.”

If in next couple week there are new espresso variant, say it Three shot espresso over ice then it will be glamourus taste (joking :)). I just considering how this “small thing” can be so massive in news coverage.
