It`s Erik Forman, a barista who was fired from his job at Starbucks Corp. because of his help for fellow workers to organize a union. Now he has been given his job back. The store Forman worked is in Mall of America’s first-floor.
Before he fired from his works, Forman talked about joining the Industrial Workers of the World union to his employees at his own store and at other stores in the area. He called his self as “the most vocal and the most active.”
Forman was fired July 10 after received the “final written warning” because of half an hour late to work. The warning followed two prior instances of tardiness a year earlier. Once a final written warning is issued, an employee may be fired.
Forman expected a warning but not a final warning. Other cases, employees are given half a dozen or more warnings before receiving a final one.
Management thought that Erik Forman has been violated terms of his June 2008 “final written warning” by discussed it with co-workers. Actually, what Forman did wasn`t only discuss about his warning but unionizing as he isĀ member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW).
Starbucks said that regarding Forman’s firing is “an unfortunate series of events.” Starbucks should also spend $2,000 to pay back for Forman.
