The world`s biggest coffee morning 2008 to support cancer are getting closer. There are some news and preliminary activity to make that charity event becomes success. Hence, a cup of coffee event to be more maximized when the time has came.
Plymouth Body Shop as host will be offering mini makeovers and a coffee to customers for a suggested donation of £3. There will also be face painting for children.
Cathy Bowley, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are very grateful to the Body Shop, not only for holding a coffee morning but also for their kindness in supporting the Mustard Tree and those living with cancer.”
There is succesful fundraise with more than £2,400 for Macmillan Cancer Support at the Hailsham Club’s Big M. The money came from two fundraising events held over the Bank Holiday weekend.
A quiz night, with prizes donated by club members and local businesses, raised around £1,700, while a popular coffee morning raised a further £700.
Colin Salisbury, of the Hailsham Club, said the coffee morning in particular was a great success. He said, “The tables were collapsing under the weight of all the donated cakes. “To have raised the money we have, it was a fantastic effort.”
Last year there was a remarkable effort in the Tees Valley with more than 500 coffee mornings raising more than £65,500.
Nationally £7.5m was raised to help Macmillan fund specialist nurses, doctors, health and social care, new cancer buildings, information and financial support. Teesiders are being urged to put the kettle on to help families who are living with cancer.
Geoff Christison, Macmillan information specialist worker at the University Hospital of North Tees, said its new centre was helping about 100 cancer sufferers every month.
“Obviously we offer emotional support, but we also provide advice and information in terms of welfare benefits,” he said.
Jill Campbell, Macmillan area fundraising manager for the Tees Valley said: “Just get together with friends, family or colleagues, add a drink of your choice and something tasty to eat and you’re part of Macmillan’s record-breaking World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.”
Fylde’s first citizen (Mayor) will be one of thousands of people having a special cup of coffee on September 26 as part of a Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser.
Councillor Susan Fazackerley helped launch the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event yesterday with a celebratory inflatable mug. Events will be taking place across the Fylde coast.
