The story about coffee in relations with police is always interesting. Once upon a time coffee cup holders from police`s car said need to be removed. another story came fromĀ Fort Worth City, US. There is free coffee for cup at some Starbucks coffee house. Then it remain debate they deserve or not to receive free coffee from Starbucks. Last month Chicago cop -Barbara Nevers- has been banned, received 15 months suspend because during 2001 to 2004 this cop demanding coffee for free and pastries baked goods from six different Starbucks.
Now there is more news than that. When a Rockaway Township police sergeant was being investigated for stealing eight breakfast sandwiches from a Quick Chek, authorities found that the store had a policy of offering free coffee — but not food — to officers.
Rockaway Township Police Sgt. Christopher Stahl, a 13-year veteran, gave up his career on Monday after pleading guilty to stealing eight breakfast sandwiches worth $29 from a Quick Chek store in Rockaway. According to the arrest affidavit filed by county Prosecutor’s Office Detective Daniel Henderson, the store had a policy of offering free coffee — but not free food — to police.
While free coffee for police is not necessarily unethical — some say it can strengthen relationships between local businesses and law enforcement — the disclosure is reviving debate over the time-honored but occasionally controversial practice.
At issue is whether a free cup of coffee for a police officer is an innocuous show of appreciation for a job well done, or an ill-advised perk that could create an expectation of special treatment on either end.
Parsippany Police Chief Michael Peckerman said he advises his officers to apply a “healthy dose of discretion and common sense” in all dealings with the public.
“The rules and regulations are clear — that you’re not supposed to be taking anything for free,” Peckerman said.

I too agree that taking anything free by policemen is some thing like accepting a bribe and it will send unethical relationship.
